Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Otto Zitk, AT

In two interconnected rooms Austrian artist Otto Zitko made a series of linear wall paintings that surrounded the visitors and gave them the sense of being inside the work. Although the work was two dimensional, it created a sense of depth and dynamic movement in all directions. The principle behind the abstract linear painting seemed simplebut it led to endless variations, impressions and effects.
