Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Shelly Nadashi, IL

Audio visual installation at Helmhaus and Literargymnasium Rämibühl

The starting point for this project was the Israeli artist Shelly Nadashi’s translation of a poem taken from Ovid’s Amores, selected and translated in collaboration with high school teacher Margaretha Debrunner. The selected poem is a eulogy to a pet parrot, and in homage Nadashi created an immersive installation of papier-mâché birds, eggs and a nest that provided the setting for an audio play set to automated lights.
