Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

John Arnold, AT

The title of this project played on the words “embassy” and “Imbisse” which are food stands on the streets of Zurich. Artist John Arnold’s concept was to create a fusion between popular take-away dishes sold on streets of Zurich and recipes from menus of historic state dinners found in the Swiss Office of Protocol and the Federal Archives in Bern. The new versions were created by Michelin-starred chef Fabian Spiquel and prepared and served in the kitchens of Zurich's Imbisse - food stand international embassies.
