Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.
Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Mobile sculpture at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen
The migration of ideas is the core subject of this project by Slovenian artist collective IRWIN. In a little car, furnished with four seats and a monitor, visitors could drive to other exhibitions in the museum. At the same time, they could become acquainted with the IRWIN members and with other travelling companions who had sent video-letters from the USA during Manifesta 1.
