Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Jenny Marketou, GR

Installation at Kunstinstituut Melly - FKA Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art

Greek artist Jenny Marketou’s work was dominated by the themes of movement and being nomadic. She was concerned with the way in which one’s identity changes according to the landscape, and the degree to which identity is restricted to a particular place. She placed her tent in the gallery and opened it to the public as a visual materialisation of her mobile identity.
