Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Film at Sociedad del Casino in Cartagena

Greek artist Stefanos Tsivopoulos’s installation explored the role that images play in history and memory. A slideshow with a selection of photographs from an archive found in Cartagena was shown alongside his film Amnesialand which combines documentary material with a science fiction story in which Murcia’s mining industry has left a Mars-like landscape and large deposits of toxic waste.
