Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Vangelis Vlahos, GR

Installation exhibited at Kubo Kutxa Kursaal

This project explored the relationship between high rise buildings and politics. Greek artist Vangelis Vhahos constructed paper models inspired by different skyscrapers around the world, including the Atocha Tower in Donostia-San Sebastián built during Franco’s regime. The sculptures acted as totems around which national values revolve but made as they were of this fragile material, they also served to question the endurance of ideals.
