Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Cristina David, RO

In her project for Manifesta 8, Cristina David investigates the conventions of social time versus cosmic time, measured over what we classify as a single year - one full rotation of the earth around the sun. David presents a video in which an astro-physicist discusses these ideas from a scientific point of view. The artist also stages a performance in which she stays in Murcia for six weeks (October 9- November 24), changing the normal rhythm of her life from the conventional time zone (UTC) to a personalised astronomical time. Her methodology involves scientific accuracy and daily personal experience, resulting in an evolving installation in which her diary notes are made available to the public
