Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Carla Filipe, PT

The title of this project by Italian artist Carla Filipe referred to the idea of dislocation and exile. The work was created in a space that had formerly been used for the public toilets in Pavilion 2. The installation was made from cement using water from the Mediterranean Sea; it also included objects such as discarded clothes and printed job ads, collected by the artist during her walks through the streets of Murcia.
