Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Adela Jušic, BA

As a member of a generation who, as children, lived through the war in Bosnia in the 1990s, Adela Juši investigates ways to deal with this post-war trauma. Recently Juši has been exploring the rules and laws, limits and freedoms, purposes and needs, of the generic "artist's statement". Her work for Manifesta 8 explores this formula-based, instrumentalised practice. In a two-channel video installation, the artist is filmed as she raises questions about her persona and these issues, including her instructions for how to write an artist's statement.
