Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 15 Barcelona will be taking place in Barcelona and 11 surrounding metropolitan cities

Larry Achiampong, GB/GH

The solo and collaborative projects of Larry Achiampong employ film, still imagery, archives, live performance, objects and sound to explore ideas surrounding class, gender, cross-cultural and post-digital identity.

With works that examine his communal and personal heritage, particularly the intersection between popular culture and the post-colonial position, Achiampong crate-digs the vaults of history. These investigations examine constructions of ‘the self’ by splicing the audio and visual materials of personal and interpersonal archives, offering multiple perspectives that reveal the deeply entrenched inequalities in contemporary society.

Achiampong received his BA in Mixed Media Fine Art from the University of Westminster in 2005 and MA in Sculpture from The Slade School of Fine Art in 2008. In 2019, he received the Paul Hamlyn Artist Award and, in 2020, he was awarded the Stanley Picker fellowship. He was nominated for the Jarman Award in 2021 and is represented by C Ø P P E R F I E L D.
