Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 15 Barcelona will be taking place in Barcelona and 11 surrounding metropolitan cities

Diversorium & Ariadna Guiteras, ES

Diversorium was started by Antonio Centeno, Maria Oliver and Veronica Valentini in 2018 in Barcelona. As an intersectional party space for all bodies, combining performance, music and dancing, it seeks to create space for learning and unlearning the numerous possibilities of existing and being with others. The basis of this project is the desire for a communal space in which to come together and to ‘dance with’ the ‘invisible’ communities in the city and ‘move’ with the discriminations that separate us. This desire is also a matter of urgency and necessity, because despite advances, society remains far from equal. Diversorium has taken place at MACBA (Barcelona), Sala Apolo (Barcelona), Sala Paral·lel 62 (Barcelona), FestivalBAM (Barcelona), MDT Moderna Dansteatern (Stockholm) and Culturpolis (Barcelona). A forthcoming Diversorium will take place at the Art Centre La Ferme du Buisson.

Ariadna Guiteras’ practice engages bodies and the relationships that form them. Her research process has led her from a more traditional performance practice to a language of artistic experimentation that also uses other forms. Strategies such as slow temporalities, ceramics, textiles and modular structures are used to explore the medieval concept of the ‘porous body’ – a medical theory that saw skin as a porous limit, easily perforable and difficult to protect. Imagined in the present, the term is extended in Guiteras work to consider bodies as vulnerable, open and always related, and used to dissect processes such as gestation and breastfeeding. Her recent work proposes a dismantling of the systems that shape identities, focusing on adulthood and its abolition.
