Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 15 Barcelona will be taking place in Barcelona and 11 surrounding metropolitan cities

Niels Albers, NL

Niels Albers is an artist with a background in structural engineering, design and architecture, as well as animation and video. In his practice, he delves into the intricate relationships between humans, animals and the wider web of life on our planet. His fascination with origins, games, play, maps and routes has sparked a genuine concern for the impact of human activity on the ecosystem, blended with a fascination for architecture.

Albers crafts large-scale spatial interventions, installations and "food sculptures", inviting physical interaction from viewers. His works are meant to be climbed on, sat on, touched, eaten and, above all, played with. Beyond their sculptural qualities, his creations respond to specific contexts, often carrying layered social and political significance.

As one of the founders of Fabulous Future, an international collective, Albers engages in multidisciplinary research and experimentation to explore the nature of space and how it is constructed.
