Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.
Manifesta 15 Barcelona took place in Barcelona and 11 surrounding cities ot its metropolitan region.

Lola Lasurt engages with displaced time aspects, often delving into the period just before her birth and the paradoxes of an era poised for significant changes. This era coincided with Spain's political transition from dictatorship to democracy, marking a paradigm shift in global politics, society and art. The complexities of constructing identity in the context of late democracy are central to her exploration.
Her projects adopt an open approach to history, formalising narratives through various media such as painting, video, editorial components and collaborative processes. They contribute to the reorganisation of historiography, incorporating elements of media archaeology and a performative perspective on micro-politics, presenting her work as a reenactment exercise.
In her recent projects, Lasurt extends her exploration further back in time, uncovering forgotten artistic and social initiatives from the early 20th century. Her approach to documents and archival materials involves painting and historical friezes that interact with architectural spaces.
