Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 15 Barcelona took place in Barcelona and 11 surrounding cities ot its metropolitan region.

Mike Nelson, GB

Mike Nelson's art focuses on turning stories into physical spaces and the objects within them. His creations immerse viewers and challenge their perception of these environments. These atmospheres are created from multi-layered narratives creating what could be described as 'atmospheres' that convey a sense of meaning. Sculptural works are informed by this practice, using ambiguity to shift in and out of focus, blurring the lines between sculpture and the objects and materials they are made of. Nelson represented Britain at the Venice Biennale and has been nominated twice for the Turner Prize. His highly acclaimed exhibition Extinction Beckons, which was held at the Hayward Gallery in 2023, showcased a diverse collection of sculptures and updated versions of significant large-scale installations spanning from the 1990s to the present.
