Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 15 Barcelona took place in Barcelona and 11 surrounding cities ot its metropolitan region.

Asad Raza, US

Asad Raza’s practice represents an expanded approach to artmaking – encompassing installations, writing, curating, dramaturgy, filmmaking and pedagogy. It takes local ecosystems and planetary ecologies as a focus, with a strong emphasis on the participatory and performative aspects of art, as well as an engagement with all human senses.

Raza's art is all about collaboration, drawing inspiration from diverse conversations with experts in various fields such as soil science, horticulture, astronomy, physics, architecture and music. In Raza's approach, the artist takes on the roles of a director, a facilitator and a connector, orchestrating unique dialogues between people and the broader natural world. This openness to interactions, involving both humans and non-humans, challenges the traditional notion of artists as creators of objects. It represents a significant shift in the artist's role within society, moving away from the conventional focus on tangible artworks.
