Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

In Lapidi the Italian artist Yuri Ancarani filmed the memorial tablets that honour the memory of the magistrates, civilians, journalists, police officers and others who havebeen victims of violence in Palermo. The video was a sequence of silent shots, in which these monuments become video sculptures.
