Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Many places in the city of Palermo relate to the period of Italian colonialism (1869 to 1945) and its legacy. The Italian collective Wu Ming 2 led a procession through these sites, an urban walk during which different voices joined to weave a narrative of repressed histories, no longer familiar to citizens although these stories shape the territory of their everyday lives.
