Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Mixed media installation at Orto Botanico
This project by Israeli artist Khalil Rabah focused on everyday objects that traverse oceans and lands, travel from different contexts, and are found mixed together on tabletops in markets and in shop window set-ups. In this installation a diverse collection of objects and artefacts, assemblages and sculptures were put together in the vitrines of the Sala Tineo in the Botanical Garden.
