Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Roman Ondák, SK

The Slovakian artist Roman Ondak realised Common Trip in collaboration with people of a variety of ages and social backgrounds, who had either rarely or never travelled. These people made drawings and sculptures based on the artist’s description of places where he had travelled. Asking them to follow his instructions while also using their own creativity, the result is an act of collective imagination. The project indirectly referred to the contradictions of that transitional era and the still visible post-communist legacy of East-European countries.
