Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Micol Assaël, IT

Installation at Casa Ciriza

The Italian artist Micol Assaël filled a space with electric motors which were turned on and emitted very unpleasant odours and noises. After a short while, staying in the room became insufferable and placed the visitors in a situation of emotional stress. This installation explored the connection between body and space, suggesting that a latent violence is contained in the spaces in which we live and work.
