Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Performance on Lake Zürich, collaboration with paralympic sporter Edit Wolf-Hunkeler
Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan made a magic wheelchair glide across the surface of Lake Zurich, bringing to mind the iconography of Jesus walking on water. In the hot seat was the renowned Paralympian, Edith Wolf-Hunkeler, who made an unannounced appearance throughout the duration of Manifesta 11.
