Spanish artist Manuel Durán’s interest in the subject of miners arose from having been a miner himself. He created his Miners’ Heads using raw materials such as potatoes. He carved his subjects’ features directly into the raw material, without preparatory sketches, allowing them to be gradually transformed through the natural drying process.
