Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Mixed media installation and drawing on paper exhibited at Manifattura Tabacchi in Rovereto
In Polder, Italian artist Tatiana Trouvé created an installation of twisted metal shapes. Intranquility, a series of drawings which completed the installation, depicted spaces and structures where murders and suicides have been committed. The artist asked: Knowing about their violent history, how should we look at these places? These two projects together constituted a reflection on reality and perception
