Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Jota Izquierdo, ES

This project reflected on the economic relationship between Western economies and China. The Spanish artist Jota Izquierdo retraced the flow of mass-produced consumer goods from individual vendors on the streets of Mexico City and Valencia back to their distributors and ultimately to their producers in the Special Economic Zone of Guangzhou, China. In this installation the collection of these objects was combined with a set of audiovisual records documenting the trading process.
