Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Presentation at Frankensteiner Hof
Wemgehoertdiestadt was founded after the violence during “media night” in St. Pauli, Hamburg. Confronted with brutality, artists, disk jockeys and musicians from Poodle Club, Butt Club, Hafenstrasse and Red Flora joined together and in different forums analysed the role ascribed to the artistic and subcultural milieu by business interests whose intention was to drain and dry out run-down areas of the city of Frankfurt as a precursor to gentrifying them.
