Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Nico Vascellari, IT

Sound and video installation exhibited at Ex Peterlini and Stazione Ferroviaria in Rovereto

This project organised by Italian artist Nico Vascellary was conducted in various natural environments including a cave near Rovereto, the Carpathian Forest, the Black Forest, Finland, Norway and Tasmania. Many musicians performed diverse musical genres, including noise, black metal, folk and electronic. This sound overlap, in combination with the atmosphere of nature, created a new sense of landscape and a purifying aesthetic and sensory experience.
