Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Installation at Kunsthal Rotterdam
This Romanian group of artists subREAL constructed an ever-expanding “Art History Archive”, based on the history of Romania under communist dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. Datacorridor was inspired by the architecture of the new Kunsthal building; the decline and incline of hallways were, from this perspective, analogous to the movements of the world in history. The visitor walking through the corridor was literally surrounded by representations of history in sound and image.
