Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Manifesta 13 Marseille was one of the only international biennials to take place during the global pandemic COVID-19, the biennial ended earlier than planned due to the second national lockdown

Jennifer Tee, NL

The Dutch artist Jennifer Tee chose to work with an undertaker in creating this installation in a room at Enzenbühl cemetery. The work explored the relationship between mind and matter, body and soul and the transition between the physical materiality of a corpse and disembodied memory. It included sculptures, photographs and ethnographic objects from different cultures used in rituals surrounding death and burial.
