Carolina Caycedo, a Colombian multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles, uses large-scale geographic photographs, vibrant artist’s books, hanging sculptures, performances, films and installations to spark broader conversations about our world. Through her studio work and field research with communities affected by large-scale infrastructure and extraction projects, she prompts viewers to reflect on unsustainable growth driven by capitalism and the need for resistance and solidarity. Informed by native peoples and feminist perspectives, Caycedo challenges the role of the colonial gaze in the privatisation and dispossession of land and water. Process and participation are central to her practice as she helps rebuild environmental and historical memory, crucial for climate and social justice. Caycedo is a 2023-2024 Soros Arts Fellow and a 2023-2024 Getty Research Institute Artist in Residence.
