Daniela Ortiz lives and works in Urubamba, Peru. Through her work, she seeks to create visual narratives that explore the concepts of nationality, racialisation, social class, and gender, critically examining the structures of colonial, patriarchal, imperialist and capitalist power. Her recent research focuses on the necessity of reclaiming historical internationalist and anti-imperialist political movements from the global south that have been erased in the face of repression.
In recent years, her work has also addressed Europe’s migratory control systems, their links to colonialism and the legal frameworks established by European institutions. Additionally, she has developed projects concerning the Peruvian upper class and its exploitative relationship with domestic workers, as well as the colonial legacy of extractivism within the mining industry.
Her work has recently been exhibited at: Kunsthaus Zürich (2024), Fondazione Sandretto (2023), Neumarkt Theater Zürich (2023), Kunsthalle Hamburg & KADIST Art Foundation, Paris (2020–21), Kunsthalle Wien (2021), the 11th edition of the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Röda Sten Konsthall, Gothenburg (2021) and the Triennial at the New Museum, New York (2018).
