Paisanaje is an exploration and action group that addresses the eco-social crisis through art. The group practices alternative modes of imagination that move away from collapse and towards envisioning other possible futures full of hope. Their goal is to re-create the city as a space of welcoming and participatory coexistence for all forms of life, fostering connections with inhabitants of rural spaces while helping sustain their knowledge and ways of life.
In all its lines of work, from cooking to dancing, weaving and transhumance, Paisanaje is inspired by traditions that, both in the countryside and elsewhere in the Global South, help make city life more bearable and balanced. With its base of operations in Madrid, Paisanaje works through art toward the construction of alternative economies as well as alternative production and feeding methods and styles of life. Artists, curators, artisans and activists make up this collective work.
