Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Felipe Romero Beltrán is a photographer and visual artist whose work explores the boundaries of documentary photography. His art engages with historical and social themes, examining the relationship between documentation and violence. Romero Beltrán focuses on regions affected by conflict, using them as visual reflections on political and social history, deeply influenced by the photographic tradition.
He collaborates on artistic research projects with institutions in Spain, Germany and Colombia. He has received numerous awards, including the Sony Photography Award (2016), Fotocanal Book Award (2019) and Torres Hejduk Prize (2020). His work has been recognised by institutions such as Casa de América (Madrid) and the Magnum Foundation (New York).
