Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Bettina Allamoda deals with references and correspondences between aesthetics and society. She examines how political and cultural tensions can be represented architecturally and artistically. Her focus lies on the analysis of what is and should be seen – a policy that is inscribed in fashion, art, design, architecture and history. Her work explores how ideas of progress from the past continue to shape the present, moving between everyday life and art. She is particularly interested in how bodies relate to space and architecture, and how visual culture reflects social and aesthetic functions.
