Manifesta purposely strives to keep its distance from what are often seen as the dominant centres of artistic production, instead seeking fresh and fertile terrain for the mapping of a new cultural topography.

Darius Mikšys's emblematic project has been to extend his invitation for an exhibition to the parents of other participating artists, thus creating an absurd situation of meetings. He sometimes also produces copies of other artworks in those exhibitions in which he participates. For Manifesta 8 he is making a cover version of Bouchra Ouizguen's dance-and-music project, which is featured as part of the same show. Beside creating a new artwork, he is also assisting his fellow artist in the realisation of her piece. The four protagonists in Ouizguen's Madame Plaza are replaced by Darius Mikšys, Gintaras Makarevi ius, Benas Šarka and Rytis Saladžius.
